Husband, father, outdoorsman, and a lifelong learner. I’m also a Certified Financial Planning Professional and a Senior Investment Advisor with Fundamental Wealth of Harbourfront Wealth Management, and I do one thing: retirement.
That curiosity turned into a finance degree at the University of Saskatchewan.
In 2009, still a student and still a little green, I sat in on my parents’ bank meeting to give them a second opinion. I watched the advisor try to solve their whole retirement with the best mutual fund, as if that was the answer to everything. But my parents had real questions. When can we retire? Can we pay less tax? Are we doing this wrong? They left with a product, and not one of those questions answered.
A decade and hundreds of conversations later, I kept hearing the same thing: I didn’t know I had a problem until I listened. People thought they’d been getting advice, when really they’d just been sold a product. It’s not their fault. The industry is complicated, and it’s hard to know whether you’re getting good advice.
So I built Retiring Canada to close that gap. Every couple of weeks, I take the hardest parts of retirement and make them simple, in plain English you can put to work. Sometimes that leads to working together. Just as often, it helps someone see the gaps for themselves, with me or without me. Either way, the mission is the same: educate and empower, and give Canadians a fair shot at getting this right.
What the letters after my name mean…
CFP® Certified Financial Planner: The standard for full retirement planning, not just picking investments.
CLU® Chartered Life Underwriter: Deep training in estate planning and protecting what you’ve built.
CIM® Chartered Investment Manager: The investment side, so the portfolio work is done properly.
You might recognise yourself here, or find yourself asking the following:
Canadians in the years right around retirement, often business owners or people who’ve saved hard and done well, who want to know they aren’t leaving money, or peace of mind, on the table.
“I’ve handled it all myself. I just want to know I’m not missing something.”
“I have an advisor. I just want to be sure I’m on the right track.”
“I’ve worked hard and saved hard. I don’t want to get this part wrong.”
“I built the business. Turning it into a retirement is a whole other job.”
If any of those sound like you, we’ll get along well. And if they don’t, the podcast and the guides are yours anyway.
Stay for the podcast and free guides. Take what helps. If we’re not a fit, that’s okay. Either way, you’re in the right place to make sense of retirement.
